In Elizabeth Wilhide’s book, Sir Edwin Lutyens: Designing in the English Tradition, she notes that the only car that Lutyens ever owned was a Rolls Royce and that this was a gift from a client. The actual car, see the photograph below, was sold at the Beaulieu auction in 2017. It was a1925 ROLLS-ROYCE 20HP SEDANCA and was sold for £35,650. In the novel in 2011 Lutyens has an Austin 10, although during the war he no longer had a car. This was all a creation of the author.
